Theme: Relevant, Real-Life Use Cases of ML/AI in Namibia
The Deep Learning Indaba is a series of master classes that brings advanced knowledge of Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) to students, researchers and industry professionals. This brings together experts from across the world to expose researchers to state-of-the-art methods and practical skills. The IndabaX programme started in 2018 as an experiment to strengthen the machine learning community beyond the annual Deep Learning Indaba, to allow more people to contribute to the conversation on artificial intelligence and machine learning. In 2018, 13 IndabaX events were run locally in different countries across Africa. NUST has been hosting the Indaba X Namibia since 2018 intending to advance knowledge in ML and DL among local industry practitioners, students and researchers.
The IndabaX Namibia 2023 will be held under the theme: Relevant, Real-life Use Cases of ML/AI in Namibia. The event explores a hybrid approach (virtual/in-person) technical masterclasses to help participants learn about AI/ML/DL, discuss the latest approaches and industry/academia poster session to illustrate the AI/ML-related projects conducted in Namibia. In addition, IndabaX Namibia 2023 will AI/ML startup competition, which aims to showcase Namibia’s /ML talent.
Venue: High-Tech Transfer Plaza Select (HTTPS)
Date: 13-14 July 2023
IndabaX Namibia 2023 is targeting all individuals who are interested and passionate about ML/AI, including developers, students, data science and AI enthusiasts.
We are targeting 100 participants for the 2023 edition.
The IndabaX Namibia is a way to experiment with the ways in which we can strengthen our local AI/ML Learning community and allow more inhabitants of Namibia to contribute to the conversation of ML and AI across our continent and beyond.

The fourth industrial revolution is a technological revolution that will shape and affect all spheres of life. However, technological barriers prevent locals from fully participating in this technological revolution. One of the barriers is the digital skills deficit. Events such as IndabaX help spread knowledge and build capacity in ML and AI in individual countries across Africa.
